Review: Ahasees Spa, Grand Hyatt Dubai

Located in the decadent Grand Hyatt Dubai, Ahasees Spa is vast and truly relaxing from the moment you step inside. I was invited to review one of the spa’s signature treatments, the Pearl Balm massage. No ordinary spa, Ahasees aims to provide guests with an experience rather than a quick in-and-out trip. I was welcomed by the ladies at the reception desk before being led to a seating area, which was both tranquil and aromatic. Here, I was asked about any medical conditions, preferences and tea and music choices, to help with personalising my experience, before being walked to the changing and treatment rooms.

The treatment

After changing into a robe, I headed to the treatment room where I was treated to a short foot scrub before lying down for my massage. With dimmed lighting and the scent of the oil used for my massage – lavendar, geranium and cypress – it didn’t take long for me to switch off and relax.

The massage lasted for an hour, and the lovely masseuse applied the perfect amount of pressure throughout. The pearl balm used for the massage was neither sticky nor too greasy, and the fragrance was divine. A full body massage, it was the perfect balance of calming and relieving, with knots in my shoulders – from being hunched over my laptop most of the time – worked out gently.

One of the things I love the most about Ahasees spa, is the post-treatment room where you are served your choice of tea and given the chance to tuck into nuts, dates and infused water, The room is dimmed, so as not to snap you out of your dazed state, but rather to wake and refresh you a little. I was given the opportunity to make the most of the spa’s facilities, including a swimming pool and sauna after the treatment, but sadly I had to return to reality.

Though I haven’t been to many spas in Dubai, Ahasees Spa is one of my favourites so far – not due to the fact that this was a review, but because the concept has been thought about from start to finish. The beautiful interiors and decor of the spa are understated, but ideal. With candles at every corner, muted shades of earth hues and calming music, a day could easily be lost here if you had the time. It is no exaggeration that once you enter the spa, your worries and problems will vanish – if only temporarily!

Though the spa is quite pricy, the Pearl Balm Massage is priced at Dhs520 (off-peak) or Dhs600 (peak), when you are able to use the rest of the facilities for free, along with the changing rooms, it is perfect for a treat or a splurge. I also think a trip to Ahasees would make for a great girly day out, a fun birthday treat with friends or a mother/daughter day.

You can find the spa menu, along with the price list and more information here.
